From June 1 to 6, 2026, a Chinese higher education delegation led by Yang Jun, Secretary General of the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), visited Slovakia and Slovenia. During the visit, the delegation held exchanges with higher education institutions and government agencies in both countries, gaining insights into trends in higher education internationalization and priorities in research innovation and talent development in key sectors.

On June 2, the delegation attended the Slovakia–China Higher Education Dialogue, jointly organized by CEAIE, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Slovak Republic, and the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic.

Secretary General Yang Jun, joined by Cai Ge, Chinese Ambassador to Slovakia, Róbert Zsembera, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic, and Vladimír Hiadlovský, President of the Slovak Rectors’ Conference (the Rector of Matej Bel University), attended the event and delivered remarks.

Under the theme “Mutual Learning—Deepening Slovakia–China Educational Cooperation and Exchange”, university leaders and representatives from both countries introduced the latest developments in their higher education systems and explored future opportunities for collaboration. About 60 representatives from 24 universities in China and Slovakia participated in the dialogue.

On June 4, CEAIE and the University of Primorska jointly hosted the Slovenia–China Rectors’ Dialogue in Izola, Slovenia. Yang Jun, Prof. Dr. Klavdija Kutnar, Rector of the University of Primorska, and Zhao Binghui, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Chinese Embassy in Slovenia, attended the event and delivered remarks. Representatives from Slovenian institutions, including the University of Ljubljana, the University of Maribor, the University of Nova Gorica, and the Management Board of the Port of Koper, also participated in the dialogue.

During the event, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the topics of “Future–Oriented Joint Discipline Development and Research Collaboration—Focusing on Green Technology and Sustainable Development” and “Applied Education and Industry-Education Integration—Empowering Youth Employment and Industrial Upgrading.” The two sides exchanged views on further expanding cooperation.

The delegation also visited the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, the University of Primorska and its InnoRenew CoE (Renewable Materials and Healthy Environments Research and Innovation Centre of Excellence), as well as the University of Ljubljana. Through these visits, the delegation gained deeper insights into the latest development, research strengths, and internationalization strategies in the two countries, and held extensive discussions on future cooperation.

This visit marked CEAIE’s first visit to Slovakia and Slovenia under the framework of China-CEEC Higher Education Institutions Consortium (CCHEIC). It was an important step in supporting China’s strategy of opening up education and further strengthening the CCHEIC as a platform for higher education cooperation.
