On April 1, 2026, Mr. YANG Jun, Secretary General of the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), met with Mr. Peter Walker, Co-Chair of the China Institute of America. The two sides held discussions on further promoting U.S.-China educational exchanges.
YANG Jun extended warm congratulations on the centennial anniversary of the China Institute, for its longstanding contributions to advancing educational and cultural exchanges between China and the U.S. He noted that CEAIE remains committed to strengthening educational cooperation with the United States, and has been actively building diverse platforms for interactions between educational communities and youth of both countries. In response to President Xi Jinping’s “50,000 in five years” initiative, CEAIE has taken the lead in implementing the Young Envoys Scholarship (YES) Program. To date, the program has invited 28,700 American young people to China for exchange and study, laying a solid foundation for enhanced mutual understanding and friendship between the youth of the two nations. Looking ahead, CEAIE will continue working closely with the China Institute and other partners from the U.S. to create more opportunities for American youth to visit China and to foster greater educational exchange and mutual learning.
Peter Walker expressed appreciation for CEAIE’s strong support over the years, particularly its assistance in facilitating American youth organized by the China Institute to participate in the YES Program. He stated that the China Institute will carry forward the spirit of educators and scholars from both countries, such as John Dewey, Hu Shih, and P. W. Kuo, and will organize more U.S.-China youth dialogue and exchange activities focusing on education, culture, and arts, to further promote bilateral exchanges.
The meeting was attended by Ms. LIAO Shenzhan, Senior Vice President for Education of the China Institute.
