On September 23, the 10th Meeting of the CEEC–China Higher Education Institutions Consortium (CCHEIC) was successfully held in Budapest, Hungary. FU Bo, Deputy Secretary-General of China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), and Adrian Lăcătuș, Dean of the Faculty of Letters and Director of the Multicultural Center at Transilvania University of Brașov, Romania, delivered remarks on behalf of the Chinese and European Secretariats respectively. László Merkely, President of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference, gave a welcome address. More than 100 leaders and representatives from CCHEIC member institutions in China, Hungary, Poland, Montenegro, and other countries attended.

FU Bo highlighted that since its founding in 2014, the CCHEIC has steadily grown through collective efforts into a vital bridge and platform for higher education exchange between China and CEEC countries. It has driven impactful cooperation in key areas-joint talent development, collaborative research, and resource sharing-yielding significant results. Looking forward, CEAIE stands ready to deepen its collaboration with European partners to sustain this bridging role, injecting lasting momentum into the EU-China comprehensive strategic partnership through education.

Professor Lăcătuș emphasized that the CCHEIC serves as a crucial link between Chinese and European universities, offering a stable dialogue platform for students, faculty and researchers. Beyond deepening mutual understanding and cultural exchange, it cultivates a sense of shared community and provides robust support for regional economic cooperation and global peace.

President Merkely cordially welcomed the Chinese delegation and fellow representatives from across CEEC countries. He underscored Hungary's position as a principal promoter of CEEC-China academic collaboration and reaffirmed its commitment to actively engage in the Consortium's faculty and student exchanges and joint research initiatives, ensuring these efforts yield tangible outcomes for all parties.

Under the theme “Opportunities and Prospects for CEEC-China Educational Cooperation in the Digital Era over the Next Decade,” representatives from leading institutions-including Eötvös Loránd University, Wuhan University of Technology, the University of Novi Sad, and Huawei Hungary-convened to discuss enhancing collaboration. The dialogue focused on strengthening engineering research, advancing joint talent development, and deepening language learning. Participants were committed to improving cooperation mechanisms, broadening collaborative fields, and enriching the substance of this partnership to ensure its sustainable development.

In accordance with the CCHEIC’s charter, the European Secretariat will be shifted for a new term in 2026. After extensive consultation, the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, was elected as the next European Secretariat. On behalf of the Chinese Secretariat and all members of the Consortium, FU Bo presented plaques to the current European Secretariat, Transilvania University of Brașov, and the incoming Secretariat, University of Novi Sad, in recognition of their contributions to the Consortium’s development.
