Welcome Ceremony for the Zhi-Xing China: U.S. High School Students Delegation Successfully Held

In response to President Xi Jinping's announcement in last November in San Francisco to invite 50,000 American youth to China for exchanges over the next five years, and to expand youth exchanges and deepen the friendship between the peoples of China and the US, a delegation of students and teachers from Lincoln High School and Steilacoom High School in Washington State, US, visited China upon invitation of China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE). In the morning of March 18, a welcome ceremony was held in Beijing. Wang Jiayi, Vice Minister and Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Education, attended and delivered a speech, and CEAIE Secretary General Yang Jun moderated the event.
Wang Jiayi emphasized that the youth of China and the US bear the mission of fostering friendship between the two countries. He expressed hope for the youth of both countries to enhance dialogue, build friendships, and interact with each other in open and appreciative mind, to establish bonds through mutual exchange and learning, and to become young ambassadors for US-China friendship.

Attendees at the welcome ceremony included Mary Sue Fields, Minister-Counselor at the US Embassy in China Karl Hoseth, Principal of Lincoln High School and Fang Yan, Principal of Tsinghua University High School. They also delivered remarks together with student representatives from both Tsinghua University High School and the American student delegation. Chen Dali, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education of China, and Fu Bo, Deputy Secretary-General of CEAIE, also participated in the welcome ceremony.

Prior to the welcome ceremony, students from the Chinese Orchestra of Tsinghua University High School performed "Jasmine Flower," and students from Lincoln High School and Steilacoom High School sang "On the Fields of Hope."
In September 2015, President Xi Jinping visited Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington State. In 2016, students from Lincoln High School were invited to visit China. This February, President Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan sent New Year greeting cards to the students and teachers of Lincoln High School, welcoming them to China for exchange and study. During this visit, the delegation will spend ten days in Beijing, Hubei, and Guangdong for exchange activities.
