Secretary General Yang Jun Leads Chinese Higher Education Delegation to Attend CBIE2024

From November 3 to 8, 2024, Mr. Yang Jun, Secretary General of the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), led a delegation of 25 representatives from Chinese higher education institutions to Canada to participate in the 2024 Canadian Bureau for International Education Annual Conference (CBIE2024) held in Ottawa. This visit marked the first Chinese university delegation to Canada since the pandemic and received strong support from the Embassy of China in Canada, Global Affairs Canada, and the Embassy of Canada in China. Leaders and representatives from institutions such as China University of Political Science and Law, Jilin University, Shandong University, Southern University of Science and Technology, and the Hainan Lingshui Li’an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone Administration joined the delegation.



During the conference, the delegation hosted a dedicated China Spotlight Session to highlight the achievements and trends of Chinese higher education. A keynote speech addressed the future prospects and challenges of China’s international education partnerships. The session also featured case studies on successful China-Canada education collaborations, showcasing achievements in joint programs, research cooperation, student exchange, and support services for international students. Yang Jun Zhang Yongjun, Minister Counsellor for Educational Affairs at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Canada Gregory Lemermeyer, Director of Pan-Geographic Advocacy and Engagement at Global Affairs Canada and Karen Dalkie, Vice President of CBIE, were present and delivered remarks.

The delegation was invited to a reception celebrating the milestone of over 1,000 Canadian students participating in the Canada Learning Initiative in China (CLIC). Speakers at the event included Wang Di, Ambassador of China to Canada Yang Jun Gregory Lemermeyer Bill Flanagan, President of the University of Alberta and Huang Cen, Chair of the CLIC Joint Committee. In his remarks, Yang Jun congratulated the CLIC program on its achievement, highlighting its significant contribution to fostering mutual understanding between Chinese and Canadian youth and enhancing the friendship between the two countries. He underlined the program as a key milestone in the history of China-Canada educational exchange.

Furthermore, the delegation engaged in B2B meetings with members of Canada’s U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities and the British Columbia Council for International Education (BCCIE) to explore practical collaboration opportunities. The delegation also visited the University of Ottawa, where they toured facilities such as the STEM Center and Makerspace and held discussions with faculty leaders.


CBIE2024, with the theme "Beyond the Horizon," featured a variety of activities, including plenary sessions, over 80 parallel seminars, exhibitions, networking receptions, and opening and closing events. The conference attracted over 1,200 educators from 42 countries and regions.
