CEAIE-AFS hosted 19 students from United States with the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program from July 10 to August 19, 2015. Students have enjoyed 6-week Chinese culture and language study in Deyang, Sichuan.
Students had their arrival orientation in Beijing from July 10 to 12. Teachers from AFS China helped students to deeply understand the program through different training sessions. The International Qualified trainer gave students a Chinese lesson with the theme of “Great Wall”, to help them adapt to the new environment.

Deyang Foreign Language School gave the students warm welcome when they arrived in Sichuan. The school prepared various cultural activities, for example, Taichi, traditional music and arts, tea workshops and Chinese language lessons to help students experience Chinese culture. Each student had improved their Chinese impressively before he left.

The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, provides merit-based scholarships for eligible high school students and graduates to learn foreign languages in Summer and Academic-year overseas programs. Since 2009, NSLI-Y program has hosted over 300 American students in different provinces in China. A large amount of students have continued their career to help contribute to the people-to-people exchange between U.S and China.
