Greetings, Shanghai! Greetings, China!
The 2024 AFS Global STEM Academies China kicked off in Shanghai with incredible energy! Brilliant young scholars from all around the world, including China, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Egypt, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom, and the United States, came together to launch an amazing first week at AFS Global STEM Academies China.
Bo Fu, Deputy Secretary-General of China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) and Board Chair of AFS Intercultural Programs China, Weiping Li, Secretary-General of International Education Association Shanghai (IEAS), and Cuihong Lyu, Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Pudong Education Bureau, attended the opening ceremony and delivered opening addresses. Lingyan Jiang, National Director of AFS China, presided over the opening ceremony.
At Shanghai session, talented young scholars from schools in Pudong District, Shanghai, including the No. 2 High School of East China Normal University, Shanghai Nanhui High School, High School Attached to Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai Chuansha High School, Shanghai Gaoqiao High School, Jian Ping High School, Jincai High School, High School Affiliated to Fudan University, Pudong Campus, Shanghai Experimental School, Shanghai Yangjing High School, Pudong Foreign Languages School, SISU, and East Shanghai High School, gathered to welcome AFSers from around the globe. The lead volunteer and the student representative from Shanghai delivered inspiring speeches to kick off the event.
During the opening event, the young scholars from Shanghai jointly crafted a splendid "Blossoming Flowers - Story of Shanghai" welcome ceremony and a lively party brimming with the city's distinctive charm, delivering an energetic and exuberant welcome to our international guests.
The academies will be held in Shanghai, Ningbo, and Changzhou. 120 exceptional young scholars from 15 countries will be provided with an immersive experience of the advancements in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in China's Yangtze River Delta region, as well as the rich cultural heritage of Jiangnan region. Get ready to witness the impressive accomplishments of these outstanding young scholars during AFS Global STEM Academies China - it's going to be quite the experience!
