In order to implement the important initiative of “inviting 50,000 young Americans to China for exchange and study over the next five years” announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and to build a dialogue platform for students from top Chinese and American universities, the
“Zhi-Xing China: U.S.-China Youth Leaders Dialogue” was successfully co-hosted by China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) and Tsinghua University in Beijing on January 23. Mr. Ren Youqun, Vice Minister of Education, was invited to deliver remarks to the young participants.
More than 150 youth leaders from top Chinese and American universities, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New York University, Tsinghua University and Peking University, participated in the Dialogue. Facilitated by experts, scholars, and industry elites, they engaged in in-depth discussions on three major topics:
Green Development, Technological Innovation, and
Social Governance. Drawing on their academic backgrounds and practical experiences, the participants shared perspectives, exchanged ideas, and deepened mutual understanding while building consensus through communications.
Vice Minister Ren Youqun noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the “50,000 in Five Years” initiative and has sent encouraging messages to American youth on multiple occasions, expressing sincere hope and encouragement for strengthening the friendly ties between the peoples of the two countries. Ren expects that young people from both China and the U.S. would act as trailblazers for deeper mutual understanding, practitioners to take the concrete action, and promoters of global development. He urged the young participants to contribute their solutions to addressing global challenges and to inject youthful vitality into the China-U.S. relations.
To implement the “50,000 in Five Years” initiative, the “Young Envoys Scholarship Program” (YES Program) was launched in 2024 and CEAIE serves as the lead executing institution. The “Zhi-Xing China: U.S.-China Youth Leaders Dialogue” unveiled the YES program’s flagship events in 2026.
