China-Norway Education Day Successfully held in Beijing

Co-organized by China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education (SIU) and Beijing Normal University, the China-Norway Education Day was successfully held in Beijing on April 18, 2018. This event aims at implementing the Action Plan between the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research on Education. Led by Ms. Iselin Nybo, Norwegian Minister of Research and Higher Education, the largest Norwegian education delegation ever in history visited China to promote science and education exchanges. The event has attracted a total of some 240 representatives from over 70 prestigious education institutions from China and Norway. 

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Zhao Lingshan, Secretary-General of China Education International Exchange Association (CEAIE), Ms. Hao Fanghua, Vice President of Beijing Normal University, Mr. Harald Nybolet, Director General of Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education (SIU), Ms. Mari Sundli Tveit, President of Universities Norway (UHR) delivered their opening address respectively. Ms. Iselin Nybo, Norwegian Minister of Research and Higher Education, gave the keynote speech. Honorable Geir O. Pedersen, the Norwegian ambassador to China also attended the opening ceremony. 

Mr. Zhao Lingshan recalled in his speech his trip to Norway last month with a Chinese higher education delegation organized by CEAIE, which consists of 73 faculty members from 33 top universities. He fully endorsed the profound humanistic heritage of always seeking the truth in Norwegian higher education and Norwegian culture. He emphasized that the higher education in China and Norway has different characteristics yet could be great complement to each other. There will be extensive cooperation opportunities in cultural heritage, personnel training, scientific and technological research and development in the future. Finally, he stated that CEAIE will spare no effort in promoting the educational exchanges and cooperation between China and Norway in the future, constantly exploring multiple modes and approaches to build a broader platform for more effective education exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

After the opening ceremony, Chinese and Norwegian representatives shared and exchanged their academic achievements and practical experiences at 4 parallel seminars respectively under the themes of Education Research, Labor market relevance, Reforming the Science Curriculum with Computing through a culture for learning and Arctic research collaboration. 

During the event, Mr. Zhao Lingshan, had a meeting with his Norwegian counterparts, Mr. Harald Nybolet, Director General of Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education (SIU) and Ms. Mari Sundli Tveit, President of Universities Norway (UHR). The three parties briefly introduced each organization and their own featured international education exchange activities. Opinions were also fully exchanged on matters of common interest in educational cooperation and programs landing.

After the meeting, witnessed by Mr. Du Zhanyuan, Vice Minister of Education of People’s Republic of China and Ms. Iselin Nybo, the Norwegian Minister of Research and Higher Education, Mr. Zhao Lingshan, on behalf of CEAIE, signed the cooperation agreements with Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education (SIU) and Universities Norway (UHR) respectively.
