Answering the call of UNESCO to protect mother tongues and co-sponsored by UNESCO Beijing Office and Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, CEAIE has organized 4 events of International Mother Language Day Celebration since 2006.
2006: 2006 International Mother Language Day celebration was held from February 21 to March 6, 2006 in Beijing. Along with Chinese representatives from educational and linguistic institutions, more than 30 diplomats from Bangladesh, France, Australia, Belgium, Vietnam, Turkey, Japan, Switzerland and United Nations Children’s Fund presented at the conference and took part in the exhibition.
2007: With the theme “Promoting Multi-culture, Building Harmonious World”, 2007 event was held from March 9 to 10, 2007 in Beijing, More than 100 Chinese representatives from educational and research institutions participated in the celebration. 30 representatives from the embassies of Bangladesh, France, Japan, Switzerland, America, Greece, India, Indonesia, Philippines and Poland in China, World Food Program and United Nations Children’s Fund also presented at the conference.
2008: UN 2008-International Year of Languages & the 9th International Mother Language Day was held on April 11 - 12, 2008 in Beijing under the theme “Multi-culture and Beijing Olympics”. There were more than 125 representatives from Chinese educational institutions, foreign embassies in China and international organizations participating in the event.
2009: With the theme of “protecting mother languages and developing cultural heritages”, the Tenth UNESCO International Mother Language Day Celebration was held in Nanchang city of Jiangxi Province on March 6th, 2009. There were 119 registered participants, including officials, experts, NGO representatives, teachers and students from universities, research institutions, educational agencies, foreign embassies and consulates and international organizations presenting at the event.
