THE FIFTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING OF CVCIE HELD IN BEIJING

The Fifth Advisory Committee Meeting of CEAIE Volunteer Committee for Intercultural Education (CVCIE) was held in Beijing on May 22, 2018. Mme. Yang Meng, the Chair of CVCIE chaired the meeting. Mme. Zhang Ling, Vice-Chair of CVCIE, Mr. Li Shoumin, Director of Hebei Provincial Department of Education, Mr. Li Jinjun, Secretary-General of Education Association for International Exchange of Guangzhou Province, Mr. Yang Zhen, Vice Secretary-General of Education Association for International Exchange of Changzhou, Dr. Urs-Rainer von Arx, Vice President of AFS, and Mr. Richard Spenser, Former President of AFS attended.

Ms. Li Yang, Director of AFS National Office gave the report on the national and regional development CVCIE has achieved in 2017, putting forward the work plan in 2018 and development strategy for the next five years. As the communication platform for AFS volunteers in the country,CVCIE is committed to promoting intercultural education exchanges between youth of China and countries worldwide, and promoting intercultural learning and understanding. 

Dr. Urs-Rainer von Arx briefed on the development of AFS Intercultural Programs and global partners in the network. In recent years, in the field of international cooperation, AFS has established close cooperative relationships with international organizations such as the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and the World Bank. In the field of education, the AFS Global Competence Readiness Index will become one of the indicators of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). AFS partners, including AFS Japan, AFS Brazil, AFS Australia, AFS United States, will provide more scholarship opportunities. In addition, the Irish Cross Cultural Learning Center has officially submitted the application to join AFS Intercultural Program and is about to launch the programs with AFS partners. 

Based on the development of AFS Intercultural Programs and the global partners, CVCIE (AFS China) will be committed to providing more young people with the opportunity for lifelong intercultural learning, and contribute to the cultivating of international talents with international vision, familiar with international rules and able to participate in international affairs and competition.
